The City of Milledgeville presents the 4th of July Independence Day Firework Celebration on Friday, July 4th at just after dark on the campus of Central Georgia Technical College!

The parking lot at the campus will be closed off for the event. Suggested viewing areas for the fireworks include Walter B. Williams park and the parking lot of the Board of Education.

4th of July Organ Concert

Celebrate Independence Day with a stirring 4th of July Organ Concert at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, honoring the United States’ 249th birthday!

Held in the sanctuary and featuring the new Walker Organ, the free program includes crowd favorites and a historic performance of The Battle of Manassas by Blind Tom—believed to have played the piece in Milledgeville during the Civil War era. The concert also pays tribute to the 200th anniversary of Lafayette’s 1825 visit to the city.

Rock Eagle 4-H Center Fireworks Display

Each year, Rock Eagle hosts hundreds of 4-H campers over the seasons. One of the biggest camp sessions happens the week of July 4th, so a special firework show for the campers is always a highlight.

The fireworks will take place Wednesday, July 2nd at dark. You are welcome to enjoy the display from across the lake, but not near the campgrounds.

Central State Hospital Campus Trolley Tour

Since its founding in 1842, the Central State Hospital Campus has been one of Milledgeville’s most fascinating and historically significant landmarks. Once home to the largest mental institution in the U.S. during the 1960s, Central State Hospital housed over 12,000 patients, employed 6,000 people, and spanned 8,000 acres of land. Today, the campus continues its legacy, serving around 200 patients on 2,000 acres of property.

Led by a former hospital employee, this two-hour guided tour offers a deep dive into the institution’s complex history, its evolving role in patient care, and the ongoing redevelopment efforts shaping the future of the site. Highlights include visits to Cedar Lane Cemetery and the Chapel of All Faiths (when accessible), each stop offering a look into the campus’s past.

Featuring grand architecture, beautiful squares, and historic neighborhoods, the sixty-minute tour provides an overview of Milledgeville’s history during its sixty-eight-year period as the capital city of Georgia. During the tour, guests will cruise the historic district via trolley and be escorted on a guided walk through the former statehouse square and St. Stephens Episcopal Church, consecrated in 1843.

Trolley tours are hosted on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 10 a.m., departing from the Milledgeville Visitor Information Center, and are offered rain or shine.

Tickets are $15 per person. Pre-purchased tickets are encouraged and may be arranged in person or by calling 478-452-4687.

Celebrate Hanukkah - Milledgeville Menorah Lighting

On Friday December 25th, the Milledgeville community will continue embracing a tradition that began in 2020. To recognize the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, the Menorah Lighting will take place at 6pm on West Hancock Street in front of The Local Yolkal Cafe. Anyone is welcome to attend. Rabbi Aaron Rubinstein from Congregation Sha’arey Israel and Rabbi Elizabeth Bahar from Temple Beth Israel in Macon will lead the group in prayer and song.

Candlelight Tour of Georgia's Old Governor's Mansion

Experience the festive holiday cheer at Georgia’s Old Governor's Mansion this Christmas. Holiday decorations reflect the time period, 1851-1853, when Governor Howell Cobb and his family occupied the beautiful home.

Tour the Mansion by candlelight for a unique experience and follow the sound of angelic voices to the hidden rotunda inside the house where musicians are gathered around the 30-foot Christmas tree on December 7th and 21st!

The Mansion will be fully decorated for the holidays and open for tours from Saturday, November 16th to Monday, December 23rd. The Mansion is closed on Mondays (except for December 23rd) and will be closed for Thanksgiving Sunday, November 24th to Monday, December 2nd.

Price: $10 per person, $7 seniors & pre-booked tours, $2 students

Take a step back in time and discover holiday traditions passed down from our city's earliest families as Georgia's Old Governor's Mansion is transformed with 19th-century era Holiday decor. The Mansion will be fully decorated for the holidays and open for tours November 16th- 23rd and December 3rd - December 23rd, 2024.

Join an evening tour of the Mansion with candles lit and choirs singing in the rotunda. Candlelight tours are at 6:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. on December 7th and 21st, 2024. Normal admission rates apply and reservations are required for the candlelight tours.

Photos with Santa will be Friday, December 13th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Reservations are required.

Explore Greene County’s Rich History at the Upcoming Historical Tour

The Greene County Historical Society invites you to explore the rich history of Greene County through the Historical Tour. This unique event features over 20 stops at historic homes, churches, and other significant sites in Greensboro, Siloam, White Plains, Liberty, and Union Point, providing an exclusive opportunity to step back in time and appreciate the architectural beauty and cultural heritage that shaped our community.

Highlights include the charming Wildwood in Liberty, home of Angela and Scott Deering. Nestled in the woods and completed in 2005, this stone cottage incorporates elements from the 1870s Smith-Strickland house and other antique features from Siloam, White Plains, Penfield, and beyond, creating an ambiance that transports visitors to the past.

The tour also features the stunning Davis House in Downtown Greensboro. Built in 1874 by merchant and banker Charles A. Davis, this Italianate-style home includes an intact ironing house, tack barn, and root cellar. Crafted from handmade brick, it features unique architectural details such as bracketed eaves and terra cotta window accents. Inside, you'll find Atlanta-crafted woodwork, an octagonal library with black walnut shelving, and marble-top washstands with hot and cold water in each bedroom.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply looking for an enriching way to spend the day, the Historical Tour offers a fascinating glimpse into Greene County’s heritage.
